BMI Calculator
Most people realize that weight directly affects our health but not everyone has a clear picture of what is an appropriate weight for them. Being overweight can increase your risk of a number of illnesses, including coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.
BMI, or Body Mass Index is a height-to-weight calculation which helps let us determine a healthy weight range.
A healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. (These calculations are not for infants, children, pregnant women or people over 65 yrs. Athletes may also receive an overestimated calculation.
If your BMI is:
- Below 18.5 - Your BMI indicates that you may be underweight.
- 18.5-24.9 - Your BMI is within the ideal range
- 25.0-29.9 - Your weight may be putting you at increased risk of health problems, such as heart disease and stroke.
- 30.0-34.9 - Your weight is putting you at risk of health problems such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke.
- over 35 - Your health is in significant danger. If you haven't seen your doctor already, make an appointment now. You are at significantly increased risk for coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease, osteoarthritis, stroke, sleep apnea, depression, certain types of cancer, and complications of other medical conditions.
